Nicaragua Mountain Biking

Nicaragua has a stellar advocacy network and world-class trails. Whether it be the other-worldly volcano trails across the country, the coffee/pineapple plantation routes that ring Managua, the Alps-esque mountain rides near Esteli or the singletracks that hug the Pacifica Coast with jaw dropping views, Nicaragua offers a plethora of fat tire destinations. Perhaps most impressive are the trail systems near Managua urban areas which include hundreds of miles of shared-use trails and even a "competitive track," designed for higher speed non-motorized trail use. All this success is a result of strong local chargers whose work has made Nicaragua a Fantasy Island for mountain bikers. But if you are looking to see a lot of riders on the trails....they aren’t here yet.

Century 21 Gold Coast Realty has its own team made up of Nicaraguans, Columbians, Europeans and broker/owner Barry Oliver. The team races in both Nicaragua and Costa Rica and often on it’s home course, El Laurel, in Managua that allows for night racing on a 5 km loop thanks to all the help from team rider, Billy Molina. Team training rides leave daily at 5:15am from Managua. On our blog we have mapped out many of the routes that start and finish at one of our 3 offices with helmet cam videos for each route provided by Barry who can also show you the best property that provides easy access to any of these trails. Barry knows the coastal trails better than anyone and has won races in both Rivas and Liberia, CR.

This ride is all up hill out and all downhill back and leaves the San Juan del Sur office of Century 21 Gold Coast Realty and heads out of town and up the paved road through La Cuesta towards the Panamerican Highway. Just after the peak it turns left and up the dirt road to the radio towers!!! There are some steep sections that will burn the lungs of even the strongest riders but the view at the top is worth it. Some rocky sections alos add to the difficulty of going up!!! Those in good shape can make it to the Radio Towers in about 45 to 55 minutes and the downhill will take about 20 to 25 minutes for those with good technical skills.

This is a really flat 20 Km loop that starts at Century 21 Gold Coast Realty, Marina Office and winds through Manzanillo, Playa Santa Maria, Nahualapa Bay and Rocky Point. Those in shape can get it done in less than an hour. Very few technical skills required.
